A Blur is A Memory
ISA Art Gallery is pleased to present A Blur is A Memory, a duo exhibition by Luh'De Gita and Etza Meisyara, curated by Savitri Sastrawan. The exhibition brings together two distinct artistic practices united by a shared inquiry into how memory can be held, visualized, and felt. Fresh from completing her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art, Luh'De Gita has established herself as one of Indonesia's emerging painters through exhibitions across Indonesia, Singapore, London, and Manila. Etza Meisyara, whose work has been exhibited at ARTJOG, and the Jogja Biennale, is the recipient of the UOB Painting of the Year Bronze Award and the Bandung Contemporary Art Award, continues to expand the possibilities of photography, performance, and printmaking.
Working from different parts of Indonesia and through different mediums, painting and photo-etching, Luh'De Gita and Etza Meisyara each explore the blur not as an absence of clarity, but as a space where memory lingers. Etza's Sonic Gesture transforms fleeting resonances of sound, movement, and performance into etched stainless-steel surfaces, preserving sensory impressions that exist between performer and spectator. Meanwhile, Luh'De Gita layers archival and personal imagery to examine Bali's shifting landscapes, weaving together fantasy, tourism, cultural memory, and environmental change through richly textured paintings and found objects. Together, the exhibition reflects on the spaces between past and present, presence and absence, and the personal and the collective, revealing the blur as an act of remembering rather than forgetting.
