Referenced from the greens of Luh'De's stay in one of the hotels in Sanur Bali, the act of cropping in her painting is crucial. She chooses a particular view, extracting them from their whole picture and representing them through painting. Luh'De thinks that this process mirrors how Bali is often consumed through selective images. Most vistors or tourists don't realise the illusion of nature appearing untouched in resorts despite being highly managed and curated. Its not to document a place but to examine the processes which a place becomes an idealized memory. Hung on a traditional Balinese hanger, the painting becomes less like a window into nature and more like an object carrying a memory, one that feels increasingly distant as the landscape around us continues to change.
