This painting looks at frangipani as more than a decorative flower. In Bali, it's part of everyday life; it is used in ceremonies and its exoticness is often presented to visitors. Luh'De is interested in how something so familiar can quietly become a symbol of welcome, while also carrying the complexities of a place shaped by tourism. The painting sits somewhere between appreciation and observation, using a simple flowering tree to reflect how hospitality becomes part of the landscape itself; how the landscape is often designed to communicate a "welcome" message, from gardens with frangipani to infinity pools framed by rice fields, they are all carefully arranged. Over time, the environment itself begins to perform hospitality.
