WHAT'S ON ISA ART GALLERY IN JULY, 2026

UPCOMING

A Blur is A Memory

11 July - 11 September 2026
ISA Art Gallery at Wisma 46, Central Jakarta

ISA Art Gallery is pleased to present A Blur is A Memory, a duo exhibition by Luh'De Gita and Etza Meisyara, curated by Savitri Sastrawan.

Opening on Saturday, 11 July 2026, the exhibition brings together two distinct artistic practices united by a shared inquiry into how memory can be held, visualized, and felt. Fresh from completing her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art, Luh'De Gita has established herself as one of Indonesia's emerging painters through exhibitions across Indonesia, Singapore, London, and Manila. Etza Meisyara, whose work has been exhibited at ARTJOG, and the Jogja Biennale, is the recipient of the UOB Painting of the Year Bronze Award and the Bandung Contemporary Art Award, continues to expand the possibilities of photography, performance, and printmaking.

Working from different parts of Indonesia and through different mediums, painting and photo-etching, Luh'De Gita and Etza Meisyara each explore the blur not as an absence of clarity, but as a space where memory lingers. Etza's Sonic Gesture transforms fleeting resonances of sound, movement, and performance into etched stainless-steel surfaces, preserving sensory impressions that exist between performer and spectator. Meanwhile, Luh'De Gita layers archival and personal imagery to examine Bali's shifting landscapes, weaving together fantasy, tourism, cultural memory, and environmental change through richly textured paintings and found objects. Together, the exhibition reflects on the spaces between past and present, presence and absence, and the personal and the collective, revealing the blur as an act of remembering rather than forgetting.

To mark the opening, the evening will feature a live performance by Flukeminimix. We warmly invite you to join us for the opening and experience A Blur is A Memory.

Sedulur Watu

14 June - 14 July 2026
Omah Budoyo, Yogyakarta

Continuing through July, Sedulur Watu brings together the practices of A. Sebastianus and Marten Bayuaji at Omah Budoyo through a shared reflection on stone as symbol, material, and spiritual presence. In Javanese, sedulur means kinship and watu means stone, together evoking a bond that is enduring, grounded, and resilient. Drawing from Javanese cultural and spiritual traditions, the exhibition explores stone as a vessel of memory, ancestral presence, and transformation. Through installation, material experimentation, and symbolic gestures, the artists consider the enduring relationship between body, earth, and place.

ARTIST HIGHLIGHT

ISA Art Gallery is pleased to highlight French-Indonesian artist Ines Katamso, whose practice explores the intersection of ecology, culture, and myth. Working with materials such as soil, recycled plastic, and botanicals, she creates paintings, sculptures, and installations that draw from animist cosmologies and vernacular knowledge rooted in Javanese and Balinese traditions.

Her notable presentations include the Biennale de Lyon (2024), ARTJOG (2024), and White Cube (2025), and Guangzhou Triennale (2026). Katamso is currently exhibited at M(a)us(ol)eum of Precious Pasts and Disposable Futures at Kohesi Initiatives, Yogyakarta from 20 June to 23 August 2026 as part of Jogja Art Week. The group exhibition reflects on preservation, memory, and the histories that societies choose to remember or let disappear.
