These paintings are based on a photograph depicting a dense greenery, where the initial sense of calmness and integrity is proven false knowing they were taken in Kew Gardens, “an artificial tropical garden”. For Luh'De, landscapes are never neutral as they carry traces of what has been there before, what has disappeared, and what continues to change. Luh'De wanted to hold onto that quiet moment where the landscape still feels soft, somewhere between preservation and transformation. The lush green becomes both a memory and a reminder that what looks peaceful can also conceal histories of displacement and slow erasure.
