Ida Lawrence Indonesian–Australian, b. 1988

Ida Lawrence is a Berlin-based artist who delights in bringing stories to life through painted text and image. Her stories, like her travels and exhibitions, meander to Indonesia, Australia, Germany and between. Lawrence’s “tallest tale” was a mural on the iconic 8 metre x 12 metre wall at Urban Spree, Berlin (2020), while other career highlights include the exhibitions HOARSE HORSE (ISA Art Gallery, 2025), Reality Check (Purga Artspace, in the 2024 Ubud Writers & Readers Festival), Amid the Alien Corn (KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, 2023), 15th Asian Art Biennale (Dhaka, 2012), Basa-Basi / Chit-Chat (ART SG with ISA Art Gallery, 2023) and In Conversation: FX Harsono x Ida Lawrence (Fairfield City Museum & Gallery, Sydney, 2019). A graduate of the National Art School, Sydney, she also studied at Sydney College of the Arts and Institut Seni Indonesia, Yogyakarta. Lawrence was a recipient of the Marten Bequest Scholarship for Painting from Creative Australia and is an alumna of the BPA// Berlin program for artists. She often collaborates, notably with Woven Kolektif.
