Hardijanto Budiman Indonesian, b. 1968

Overview

Hardijanto Budiman, also known as Hardi Budi, is a Jakarta-based visual artist who has won over 200 awards from prestigious photography events worldwide. Despite his accolades, Budi does not consider himself a ‘pure’ photographer. Instead, he uses the camera as a medium to capture his life's journey, expressing his imagination, emotions, and experiences through the lens. His work primarily focuses on conceptual contemporary photography, a genre that transforms ideas and imagination into visual reality. Deeply influenced by Surrealism, Budi refers to his pieces as "Imaginary Story Pictures," where he plays the role of a storyteller thinking beyond ordinary reality.

In 2021, Budi won the first prize in the conceptual professional category at the Chromatic Awards and received recognition from All About Photo, the “Smile World” International Photography Awards, Vienna International Photo Award, and Chromatic Photography Awards. His works have been published by major outlets such as Forbes, Vogue, Detik, and Kompas, and featured in exhibitions including the 15th China Yixian Photo Festival, Shanghai International Photo Festival, Siena International Photo Exhibition, and Gauting International Photoweek. In 2021, he also exhibited at Venice Photo Lab and Isa Art & Design. Currently, Budi is a Nikon Indonesia Brand Ambassador.
