Overview

The presentation by ISA Art Gallery at Art Jakarta Gardens 2025,

“The Apartments” , unfolds as an exploration of these in-between conditions. Envisioned as a conceptual ‘living quarters’, the show shifts the gallery’s presentation into a frayed yet interconnected space, where each artist inhabits a symbolic ‘residence’ inside the gallery’s cubicle. Each artist’s practice is a window—at once an aperture for observation and a point for engagement. The works engage with the apartment as both subject and structure, tracing its psychological, sociopolitical, and historical contours. If we look at the apartments as an archive, it is not merely a passive structure but an active participant in shaping our daily lives. It almost
feels like it dictates our movement, routines, and our intimate habits. Nevertheless, to inhabit an apartment is not only to exist within its walls, but also to navigate its relationship to the outside world.
