Bandu Darmawan Indonesian, b. 1989
Hailing from Cilacap, Central Java, Bandu Darmawan boasts an educational background in Intermedia Arts from the Bandung Institute of Technology. A maven of experimentation, he navigates various mediums, with art being a pivotal focus. Bandu's versatility across mediums stems from his belief that each distinct message demands an equally distinct medium for effective conveyance. Frequently employing technological tools—both contemporary and obsolete, sometimes even abandoned by society—Bandu challenges conventional perspectives. His unconventional approach includes the deliberate "destruction" of devices, questioning the essence of technology itself. Bandu contends that utilizing technology as a creative medium allows for a temporary departure from the passive role of technology consumers, prompting reflection on the often taken-for-granted progress in technological advancements.
