ON GOING

HOARSE HORSE

ISA Art Gallery is proud to present HOARSE HORSE, a solo exhibition featuring the works of Ida Lawrence, with an accompanying film by Monika Proba. In HOARSE HORSE, Ida Lawrence brings together a cast of creatures. Stylish foxes, guarded birds of prey and raspy equines flock together in her latest series of wild story-paintings at ISA Art Gallery. The exhibition offers a window into Lawrence’s painting instincts: image, narrative and the joy of language intertwine through gesture and rhythm. Her worlds are playful yet uneasy, where humour and tension coexist in vibrant colour.

SANDANG SANDING AGRARIA
ISA Art & Design x WTC x Sekar Kawung

Sekar Kawung is a social enterprise dedicated to reviving Nusantara’s textile traditions. It is a system of knowledge shaped by ecology, farming cycles, and collective labor. In Tuban, weaving and batik are inseparable from agricultural philosophy, marking identity, ritual, and solidarity while embodying balance between humans and nature.

Believing that textile culture is a form of agroecology, which sustains harmony between people and nature while opening pathways for regenerative economies, Sekar Kawung draws on long-term research and archives, including Rens Heringa’s notes on Tuban’s farming and textile practices, to revive these traditions through contemporary works. Through exhibitions on Tenun Gedog and Batik Tuban, it invites reflection on clothing as a holistic value system. In Tuban, weaving always precedes batik-making. This is a metaphor for interlacing past virtues with the present and future, reminding us that clothing can guide us toward more grounded, sustainable, and resilient ways of living.

ARTIST HIGHLIGHT

Our Artist Highlight of the month is Ardi Gunawan, proudly representing ISA Art Gallery at the MACAN Gala 2025 with his witty and thought-provoking work The Meaning is Confused by the Startup (2024), generously donated by the artist and ISA. The piece reflects Ardi’s sharp humor and conceptual playfulness, highlighting his distinctive voice in contemporary art.

The MACAN Gala 2025 is Jakarta’s leading annual fundraising event, bringing together artists, patrons, and cultural communities to celebrate and support the development of contemporary art in Indonesia. This year’s gala is themed Dance of Colors and will feature the exclusive opening of Olafur Eliasson’s exhibition Your Curious Journey.

Known for his playful yet critical approach to language, systems, and everyday logic, Ardi’s practice spans sculpture, installation, and paintings that reframe the mundane with sharp humor and philosophical depth. His works have been presented at institutions and platforms including Gertrude Contemporary in Australia, Objectifs in Singapore, and the National Gallery of Indonesia. With a practice that continues to evolve in bold and intelligent ways, Ardi remains a strong voice in Indonesia’s art ecosystem

ISA ARTIST ON THE MOVE

 INES KATAMSO

Telluria

Appetite Singapore

6 December 2025 - 28 February 2026

ISA Art Gallery is delighted to share Ines Katamso’s participation in Telluria, a group exhibition at Appetite Singapore curated by Tan Siuli. Telluria draws on mythologist Joseph Campbell’s idea that the “future myth” must speak to our relationship with the Earth and the cosmos. Named after tellur—“of the earth”—the exhibition evokes primordial origins, lost continents, and the deep ties between land, species, and story. In a moment of ecological urgency, Telluria invites us to imagine new myths for a living, sentient planet—braiding the ancient with the future, the material with the mythic, and the human with the more-than-human.

Opening | 6 December 2025,  5–7 PM
