Ines Katamso Indonesian French, b. 1990

Overview

Ines Katamso is a French-Indonesian artist whose work unfolds at the intersection of ecology, culture, and myth. Engaging with natural materials and subjects such as soil, recycled plastic, and botanical observation, she develops slow processes that explore the spiritual and environmental entanglements between humans and their ecosystems.

Her practice draws from animist cosmologies and vernacular knowledge, particularly those rooted in Javanese and Balinese traditions, Through acts of foraging and pigment-making, she reconsiders land not as backdrop but as narrator, an active archive of memory and identity. She often collaborates with local communities and ecological networks, incorporating fieldwork and site-responsive methodologies into sculptural installations, paintings, and living systems.

Recent presentations of her work include the Biennale de Lyon (2024), ArtJog (2024), and an upcoming participation in the Jakarta Biennale (2026) and Guangzhou Biennale (2026). She has been artist-in-residence at IAC Villeurbanne has exhibited with White Cube in October 2025.
