Marten Bayuaji
Overview
Born in Jepara, he started studying fine arts at Yogyakarta State University in 2010, and at Bandung Institute of Technology in 2018. In his artistic practice, Marten is greatly inspired by natural subjects, whether in their physical form or their ideas. His working method is site study, this forces him to be open to using various media in creating his work. In 2018, Marten became interested in studying nature from an anthropocentric perspective. Now, it's lead to the disciplines of philosophy, history and geology. According to him, looking back to the most basic things about how we humans view nature is very important.
In his career, Marten has participated in many art exhibitions and carried out several art projects. Some of them are environmental art projects in collaboration with Sindurejan Village, Yogyakarta 2014, and Krapyak Wedomartani Village, Sleman 2015. Became one of the artists-in-residence for 3M Project No.3, Ace House Collective, Yogyakarta 2018, and Leipzig International Art Program, Germany 2021, and was involved in the Modus Air program, lndeks, Bandung - South Kalimantan 2023. Marten is currently working on a project in the area around Mount Merapi, Yogyakarta
