Ida Lawrence Indonesian/Australian, b. 1988

Ida Lawrence is a visual artist with a special interest in storytelling. Her narrative paintings combine text and image and are informed by research, observations and personal experiences between Australia, Indonesia and Germany where she is currently based. 
 
She has participated in exhibitions including Buah Tangan, with ISA Art + Design / Art Jakarta (2020); In Conversation: FX Harsono x Ida Lawrence, at Fairfield City Museum and Gallery, Sydney, Australia (2019); The 15th Asian Art Biennale, Dhaka, Bangladesh (2012); and looking here looking north, with Woven Kolektif at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, Sydney (2019).
 
Ida graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting at the National Art School (located on the site of a former jail) and received First Class Honours from Sydney College of the Arts (located on the site of a former mental asylum). She has been based in Indonesia at different times, including 2010-2013 while studying dance with the Darmasiswa Scholarship at the Indonesian Arts Institute, Yogyakarta. Ida is a member of Woven Kolektif, a group of artists who formed through their shared connections to Indonesia and Australia.
