For me, paper has become an important part of my creative process because it allows me to keep exploring materials and the making process. Through papermaking and research, I learn from the knowledge and practices of the past while exploring how they can evolve and take new forms in the present and future. This work was made during my residency in Korea, where my encounter with hanji allowed me to reflect on these ideas through Korean papermaking traditions. Rather than seeing hanji simply as a historical or cultural artifact, I am interested in how its values continue to exist in contemporary life. The work explores paper as a connection between past and present, tradition and experimentation, and memory and everyday experience.
