"I think paper is a material with endless possibilities. I am exploring the idea of memory, and I see a similarity between paper and the way our brains recollect memories: both are fragile and susceptible to staining, distortion, damage, or destruction. The way I cut and collage images mimics how our brains recall memories, where recollections intermingle and transition from one another in a non-linear fashion.
Yaro, Nabire No. 1 traces a fragment of an oil palm plantation in Yaro, Nabire, Papua, transforming its aerial landscape into an abstract composition of handmade paper. The forms are cut directly from the plantation’s mapped boundaries and reassembled from papers made with clove, oil palm, and sugarcane fibers, plants connected to different histories of cultivation, trade, and extraction in Indonesia."
