Object interpretation of the Poinciana/Pontianak story
A vessel that holds a story in its making. Dilly-bag chosen as its connection with a ‘womens object’ but also for its womb shape and the links of pregnancy and childbirth to tellings of the story.
Materials list allude to the common threads in both the Indonesian and Larrakia tellings of the story: A woman with long black hair, red eyes and a white dress.
Black cotton thread is naturally dyed with a botanical dye - representing both womens hair and the areal roots of the banyan tree - tangled and reaching for the ground.
