This painting takes its climate from the tropics — hot, excessive, unrelenting. Colors are allowed to sit next to one another without being overworked, like zones on a thermal map, each radiating its own intensity. Heat itself has become a way of reading bodies and objects — an index of presence, proximity, and risk. Food becomes the surface for this logic: melting, sweating, fermenting, carried over as leftovers. The work resists the demand for critical gravitas, instead embracing its place as something to be consumed — on a dining table, a coffee table, or simply for the pleasure of looking.
