TAKASHI MURAKAMI
ME AND MR DOB, 2010
Offset Lithograph in Colors with cold stamp and high gloss Varnishing on Smooth Wove Paper
68x68cm
In this artwork, MR DOB is depicted together with Murakami’s avatar against a sea of smiling
twelve-petalled flowers. MR DOB is a perfect blend between conformity and cynicism against
Americanization of Japanese pop culture; a duality that exist in Murakami’s many characters,
including the twelve-petalled flowers and the Murakami avatars. MR DOB’s wide range of stance
is also reflected in the different ways his face are depicted, sometimes doe-eyed, button-eyed, or
even maniacally sneering showing his sharp teeth and disfigured face.
