TAKASHI MURAKAMI
AND THEN, AND THEN, AND THEN (RUST RED 1), 2006
Offset Lithograph
50x50cm
Is a depiction of MR DOB, one of Murakami’s earliest alter-ego. He appeared as early as in 1993,
and was created with the intention of it being a Japanese icon with universal appeal. The
etymological origin for MR DOB’s name is a dada phrase ‘dobojite, dobojite’ which means ‘why,
why’, a reflection of Murakami’s stance of questioning everything in this world. The MR DOB that
appears in ‘And Then, And Then, And Then’ is a cuter and friendlier iteration of the character.
