Hibiscuses Is one of Arie Smit’s most famous subject matter. The stark Red colour of the
hibiscuses are juxtaposed with the different hues of blue at the background. Smit is a painter of
light, he mixes elements from impressionism and the local style of mooie indie. When it’s blue, it’s
not just blue; in any colour that he paints he will present the audience with so much more hues.
As if the object is basking in sunlight.
