"In Artist Statement, the entire piece unfolds through a story of how Ida Lawrence first crossed paths with Monika Proba at ISI Yogyakarta, yet the narrative continually slips, mutates, and reveals its own disguises. What appears to be a simple recounting is, in fact, full of camouflaged creatures, half-hidden hints, and animal behaviours smuggled into sentences.
She leans into mistakes, or at least the illusion of them: words that wander off like stray cats, phrases that molt mid-sentence, meanings that mimic, evade, or play dead. These deliberate misinterpretations and stumbles become a way of listening differently, of letting language behave more like an animal; instinctive, unpredictable, and always ready to dart in an unexpected direction."
