Jackson Farley is a multidisciplinary artist and curator living and working on unceded Gadigal land(Australia). His practice intertwines narrative and humor to point out the absurdities of archaic power structures and hierarchies. In his piece titled ‘Ur All Gonna End Up Like Me’, Farley explores our fascination with relics and how these objects help shape our collective sense of identity. The piece depicts the “Hero’s journey”—featuring renaissance figures, on a winding path that ends abruptly above a pit of fire—the new world order. The path is lined with green pastures where animals roam free, painting an idyllic scene. Each of these figures, removed from the shackles of history—but even then, they don’t have much to say. Each embodies a part of us, how we see ourselves and how we perceive one another. A collectivist mentality in the search for an omnipotent, divine figure, only to finally realize everything we ever needed lies within and it’s already too late.
