"Dipamerkan dalam proyek seni 900MDPL dengan tema Genealogy of Ghosts and How to Live with Them.

Exhibited as part of the 900MDPL art project, this edition carries the theme Genealogy of Ghosts and How to Live with Them. The work begins with the Boyong River, located between Turgo and Plawangan Hills and believed to be a gateway to the Merapi Palace. The Boyong River also serves as a channel for sand and volcanic material carried by lahars during Mount Merapi’s eruptions.

For communities living on the slopes of Merapi, the Boyong River is believed to function as a kind of toll road connecting the Merapi Palace, the Yogyakarta Palace, and the South Coast Palace. Envoys from these palaces were believed to travel between them on horseback and by carriage. (Javanese Man and Mount Merapi, Lucas Sasongko, Gadjah Mada University Press, 1991).

Kuda Lumping, or Jathilan, is a traditional performance in which dancers enter a trance or become possessed, causing various disturbances before eventually being brought back to consciousness by a shaman through mantras or prayers. Once the dancers regain consciousness, order, safety, and control are restored.

This cycle reflects the nature of the natural world and how the universe maintains its balance through processes of destruction and recovery. Yet modern humans, as only a small part of this ecosystem, have become increasingly dominant and, in doing so, have disrupted that balance.

The massive extraction of stone and sand from Mount Merapi’s volcanic deposits has contributed to development across Indonesia, yet much of this mining activity is illegal."
