"Paper serves as a low-pressure playground for raw intuition, inviting uninhibited experimentation and messy first drafts. Its physical texture and tactile feedback keep me grounded in the moment, allowing abstract thoughts to take immediate shape while honoring every spontaneous mark, smudge, and creative detour as a vital part of the process. Holding the Quiet explores silence not as an absence of sound, but as something tangible: a fragile, weightful presence carried gently between two hands.
Set against a balanced horizon of sage green and warm cream, the centered figure exists entirely within a private moment of composure. She does not seek the viewer’s gaze; her downcast eyes turn inward, anchoring the canvas in a calm, self-sufficient solitude. Clad in a classic olive dress and a soft turtleneck, her attire roots the scene in the quiet rhythm of the everyday, proving that profound contemplation often resides in the most ordinary moments.
At the center of this structured, subdued composition lies a striking point of vitality: a single crimson anthurium. Against the cool, muted background, the vibrant red blossom functions as a solitary heartbeat. The anthurium—architectural, vivid, and resilient—symbolizes a private truth, a tender memory, or a hidden passion kept close to the chest. It serves as a visual reminder that beneath a calm and composed exterior, an intense inner life pulses quietly.
Her gesture of cradling the stem is an act of gentle stewardship. It speaks to the delicate discipline of protecting one’s inner peace against the momentum of the outside world. Ultimately, Holding the Quiet is a meditation on the beauty of the pause, a celebration of the quiet dignity found when we step back, breathe, and gather ourselves in stillness."
