"I use paper when the medium suits the context of my needs, whether in terms of physical or cultural considerations. This artwork is an expanded-medium version of my site-specific artwork created during the Aranya Winter Residency program in the Jinshanling mountains. The artwork is talk about my experience when climbing the mountains, and related with the Chinese philosophy.

In every climb I do, there are two things that are contradictory and compete with each other in my body. A dualism in the mental state that is turbulent and feels like arrhythmia. They are ‘fear’ and ‘desire’. There is a condition that forces me to fulfill the desire to conquer the mountain. But there is also a condition that forces me to be afraid of risks and disasters. These two things try to control each other throughout my climbing steps. This phenomenon is very interesting, at the most balanced point between the two I can determine when I should continue or stop my steps.

Surprisingly, in Chinese characters both of these words have the character xīn in them. The word ‘fear’ contains the words ‘heart’ and ‘art’, while the word ‘desire’ contains the words ‘valley’, ‘breath’, and ‘heart’. I think that these two words seem to explain that the mental realm is always related to the heart. As if the heart is the essence and control in these two mental states."
