Selamatan Kendeng is an artwork inspired by the Kupatan Kendeng tradition, a village procession carrying a mountain of ketupat as a form of respect in Javanese culture. The term kupatan means “acknowledging mistakes,” symbolizing human admission of wrongdoing and an apology to Ibu Bumi (Mother Earth), who has long sustained life. Unlike typical Eid traditions that focus on forgiveness among people, this ritual extends the act of apology to nature itself, reminding humans of their responsibility to respect and care for the Earth.
