"The work represents a view taken through a photograph in Harau, West Sumatra. The
landscape in Harau itself is vast and dominated by massive structures of natural rocks. I brought
myself across that view and witnessed its dominating presence. Some parts of those
characteristics were eventually framed in this image. Through the painting, I tried to highlight the
colors and textures that were present in the landscape, including the rocks and the greenery
enveloping it.
In this particular image when there’s depth in the actual landscape, the flatness of the image is
somehow present. The flatness made the view seem to be mashed into a 2 dimensional texture,
making the visual even more interesting to me."
