"Born in Cianjur, West Java, Agus Wijaya is an Indonesian artist of Chinese background who now lives in Australia. Influenced by divisive narratives growing up, his practice questions the construction of both the personal and cultural beings through abstraction, experimental sculpture and new media.
Now raising a young family in Australia, Agus seeks to reconnect with his cultural heritage and beliefs, reclaiming aspects of his identity and passing on some values to his children.
His works are a multi-medium exploration of identification and dis-identification, of personal and cultural interpretation, of the bridges and glitches between ways of knowing and seeing."
