                    Hibiscuses Is one of Arie Smit’s most famous subject matter. In this rendition the flowers are
outlined with golden glow in pointillist style brushstrokes. The hibiscuses are surrounded by
different tropical vegetations against a deep blue background. Smit is a painter of light, he mixes
elements from impressionism and the local style of mooie indie. When it’s blue, it’s not just blue;
in any colour that he paints he will present the audience with so much more hues. As if the object
is basking in sunlight.
