Overview
Anang Saptoto, A.Md., S.Sn. is an artist, designer, and activist from Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He studied Visual Communication Design (Akademi Desain Visi, 2000-2005), Television (Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta, 2002-2009), and is currently continuing his Master of Video Art studies at ISI Yogyakarta (2023-present). Anang works across mediums-design, painting, photography, video, music, and interdisciplinary art-with a focus on ecological issues, human rights, disability, children's education, and social change. For him, art is not only an expression, but also a tool to open dialogue, amplify marginalised voices, and build solidarity through collaboration. Since 2020, Anang has served as the director of art collective MES 56 and founded the agriculture-based art project Panen Apa Hari Ini (Pari). He also initiated a number of creative communities, including INKUIRI Ars Et Cetera, Unen-unen Mobile Music Clinic, and Wana Nagara Pugeran Urban Forest Studio. Award after award confirmed his impact in the art world. In 2020, she received support from UN-HABITAT to run Pari, followed by SEED AWARDS from The Prince Claus Fund in 2021 as one of the world's 100 influential artists. In 2022, she received the Unlimited x micro award from the British Council for her collaborative project ‘Sari-Sari Series’ with Rhine
