The Shore Is Parchment #9 is part of a series of large-scale cyanotypes created onsite in
different beaches in the Philippines. Marks are made using materials found in and around the
site, combined with cut outs of recycled transparency prints, and organic chemicals such as
salt, vinegar, turmeric, cocoa, etc. These are arranged on top of paper coated with lightsensitive chemicals and subjected to the elements for a predetermined amount of time. The
work is about relinquishing control and allowing the environment and conditions thereof, to be
a collaborator in the final work.
