Arahmaiani Indonesian, b. 1961
Arahmaini stands as one of Indonesia's most influential contemporary artists, internationally acknowledged for her impactful and thought-provoking commentary on social, political, and cultural matters. Born in 1961 in Bandung, Indonesia, she emerged as a trailblazer in the field of performance art in Southeast Asia during the 80s, demonstrating versatility across various media. Over the past six years, her artistic focus has notably centered on environmental issues in the Tibetan plateau region. Actively engaged in on-site collaborations with Buddhist monks and villagers, Arahmaiani is dedicated to fostering heightened environmental consciousness through a range of ongoing community projects.
